Description
Located on the top floor of a building in the area of downtown Lisbon reconstructed after the earthquake of 1755, this apartment of the so-called Pombal period just underwent extensive renovations. The flexibility of the original typology allowed for the re-arrangement of shared and private areas which, lacking the decorative features of wealthier apartments on other floors , are brought to life by multiple connecting interspaces. The key features of this apartment’s architectural approach are the recovered wooden structure of the rood with its skylights and the reinterpretation of original construction elements and techniques, suggesting a contemporary experience of the Pombal period style.
