Description
This is one of five galleries that integrated the Águas Livres Aqueduct system. Built entirely underground, it was 2835 meters long and connected with all the water mains. This gallery supplied water to several public buildings such as the Imprensa Nacional, the Public Promenade, the Misericórdia charity, the S. Pedro de Alcântara promenade and the Carmo Municipal Guard Garrison. This unique site starts at Casa do Registo (registry), next to the Mãe d’Água Reservoir in Amoreiras, and ends in the piazza of São Carlos Opera Theatre.
