Description

This building is set within the Belém Palace complex. Prior to the intervention, there was a six-meter elevation differential between the site’s highest point and the area connecting to the palace, so a horizontal reference scheme was drawn - a further addition to the landscaped plateaux in direct rapport with the palace. The sizes of the rooms in the adjoining building, that dates back to the reign of king Carlos, were used as reference when designing new spaces. The café, the only program set in the green garden area, is a white expanse redefining the site’s outer boundary.
